For the seventh year in a row, JMS participated in the Salvation Army’s Adopt-A-Family program to spread some holiday cheer to those less fortunate than us. The program pairs impoverished families with individual or business sponsors who are able to provide the families with gifts for the holidays. The Adopt-A-Family program has grown significantly through the last several years due to the generosity of donors throughout the state of New Jersey. In 2013, 179 families were adopted, and by 2020, that number had increased to 680 adopted families!
Cassondra Weaver-Spilatro, a Project Manager with JMS, coordinates the effort with the Salvation Army every year and JMS is matched with at least three families from the Somerville and Bound Brook area. JMS environmental scientists, managers, and LSRPs come together to donate clothing, toys, gift cards, and necessities for the family members. JMS also provides each family with ShopRite and Walmart gift cards to ensure a wonderful meal to celebrate the holiday.
Every year the gifts pile in and the generosity of the JMS family is extraordinary. As a JMS tradition, before loading the gifts into the JMS “sleigh” to drop them off at the Salvation Army, the JMS family gets together for a group photo with the gifts in front of the office Christmas tree. Although COVID-19 made 2020 a challenging year, JMS was still able to provide gifts for families in need.
JMS is thankful to help the program grow and looks forward to participating every year. The Adopt-A-Family program is a fun way to give back to the community and help brighten the holiday season for families in need.
