JMS Senior Manager Stephen Kehayes has been asked to serve as a Focus Area Champion on the NJTPA-Rutgers Together North Jersey project. Together North Jersey (TNJ) is a collaborative planning effort led by the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA) and the Rutgers Voorhees Transportation Center that includes municipal, county, community development and other professionals within the 13-county NJTPA region that are dedicated to improving the quality of life in North Jersey through increased transit oriented design. The goal of TNJ is to develop a plan that invests in these communities to make housing, jobs, education, recreational and cultural opportunities more accessible while reducing automobile dependency.
The TNJ planning effort is funded by a US Department of Housing and Urban Redevelopment $5M Sustainable Communities Regional Planning Grant. Another $5M has been leveraged from project partners. The first phase led to the creation of four Task Forces; Competitive, Efficient, Livable and Resilient Task Forces. Each Task Force has several Focus Areas to meet the Task Force planning goals. The second TNJ phase will lead to the development of strategies and plans to implement the Task Force goals.
Mr. Kehayes will serve as the Champion for the Efficient Task Force land use Focus Area, providing subject-matter expertise and guidance towards the development of a plan to locate most new housing and commercial development in places with existing and planned infrastructure. Steve is well suited for this role given his 25 years of experience in the brownfields redevelopment effort at the federal, state, county and local levels. JMS is proud to provide Steve’s services towards advancing the efficient and sustainable goals of Together North Jersey, which will, in turn, improve the quality of life for all North Jersey residents.
