Posted on March 16th, 2012

On March 9, 2012, New Jersey Future held their 7th annual Redevelopment Forum. JMS was proud to be a sponsoring colleague of the event, and Tom Burke and Pete Sorge of JMS were in attendance. The forum was centered around several key speakers, with morning and afternoon breakout sessions into smaller discussion groups. Issues discussed covered a variety of emerging redevelopment issues, including smart growth, urban planning, green energies, foreclosures, flooding, and funding sources. This year’s speakers included New Jersey’s Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno, Chris Leinberger, and slew of other experts from both private and government sectors.

One breakout session that was particularly interesting was entitled, “Dealing with Reality: A New Approach to Property Acquisition Without Eminent Domain,“ Speakers on this topic included:

  • Anne S. Babineau, Esq. Partner with Wilentz, Goldman, & Spitzer, P.A.
  • Robert P. Antonicello, Executive Director, Jersey City Redevelopment Agency
  • Anthony M. Graziano, MAI, CRE, FRICS Managing Director, Integra Realty Resources
  • George Vallone, President, Hoboken Brownstone Co.

The speakers discussed their experience and the challenges involved in acquiring parcels of Property for redevelopment without the use of eminent domain.

Overall, the forum was informative, entertaining, and provided some great networking opportunities. More information about New Jersey Future, as well as summaries of the forum, and presentation materials are available from their website, at:
