In May of 2015, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) announced that it would be enhancing its online services to include the submission of the Remedial Investigation (RI) Report and Form (JMS Blog). While many have likely ignored this service, as it is not yet required, the NJDEP has since notified the regulated public that starting on April 3, 2016, the use of this service will become mandatory (https://www.nj.gov/dep/online/). What is of particular interest regarding this notice is that the wave of RIRs that are due as a result of the May 2014 RIR Extension will be due shortly after this requirement goes into effect (i.e., May 2016). Couple that with the inexperience that most likely have with this online service, and the May 2016 RIR submission promises to be full of surprises.

JMS has been and will continue gathering experience with this online submission process, and we recommend you do the same before May 2016.

An NJDEP Online account will be required to use this service (instructions for obtaining an account can be found at https://www.nj.gov/dep/online/reg_instructions_new.pdf) and specific instructions for using the RI Online Service are available at https://www.nj.gov/dep/srp/srra/forms/remedial_investigation_report_ins_online.pdf?version_1_1.
