J.M. Sorge, Inc. is pleased to announce that Stephen Kehayes has joined our senior management team. Steve brings almost 30 years of experience overseeing the cleanup and redevelopment of high-profile contaminated sites throughout the state. He began his career with the NJDEP Site Remediation Program and, more recently, was with the Newark Community Economic Development Corporation where he managed the City of Newark brownfield program. Steve has a strong understanding of federal and state remediation processes, liability protections and brownfield funding incentives and has presented these topics at many state and national conferences.Screen Shot 2016-04-05 at 1.54.00 PM

With the NJDEP, in addition to be serving as a Supervisor and senior Case Manager at the NJDEP, Steve has been involved in the federal and state brownfield programs since their inception. He co-authored the abstract that led to the creation of the Office of Brownfield Reuse within the NJDEP. Steve managed the Brownfield Development Area (BDA) program while in the Office of Brownfield Reuse and supported the Portfield Initiative, a collaborative effort between the Port Authority of NY & NJ, the NJ Economic Development Authority and the NJDEP to cleanup and to prepare sites within the Port Newark and Port Elizabeth area for freight related reuse. He also represented the NJDEP in the NJ DOT Transit Village program.

While Steve was with the City of Newark, he managed over $7 million in federal and state grants for the city. He was responsible for promoting the successful redevelopment of distressed properties in Newark by guiding developers through the liability, funding, remediation and development process. Steve also supported business retention and attraction, job creation, infrastructure development and port growth.

Steve brings to J.M. Sorge and our clients strong expertise in developing remediation strategies for large urban contaminated properties; maintaining compliance in a complex regulatory environment; and navigating the redevelopment of urban, blighted properties. We are pleased to have Steve as a part of the JMS team, and are confident that his experience and professional network will enhance our ability to offer our clients practical solutions to complex environmental problems.
